The day on 29th March 2020 when the lock down started. We were feeding the strays in the afternoon, when we saw a 7 month puppy was lying on the middle of the road, unable to get up and large vehicles were plying somehow bypassing him. We grabbed her and found it was a mixed breed labrador with distemper symptoms. Since the virus is very contagious,we took risk and started her treatment. She recovered a bit post days days of IV treatment, but suffered 2nd distemper attack with 40 days in which her left side got completely paralyzed. We did all possible treatment of hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, strict diet and supplement tablets to improve her immunity. All tests related to health was done like blood test, xray and USG. Our sincerity, hardwork, patience and dedication paid off and she stood on her 4 legs post 4 months. She has been named DEVIKA and she has been successfully adopted.
Raja’s parents are pavement dwellers. They work in a small shack for their daily living. They sleep on he payment and sometimes in the local shade. Raja has been adopted by them when he was a puppy. Raja is now 3 years old. We take care of his treatment cost (in any), vaccinate him every year and he has been sterilized too. We are looing for a socety where all the strays have a parent/human companion in their life journey.
We lovingly call her Burri and she was around 14 years of age. She developed tumour in her mouth around the gums. She was unable to eat her food due to this. We initially treated her with antibiotics, but the tumour started growing more. As the last resort, we had to do her surgery and it was a do or die situation for us. The surgery was conducted by a renowned doctor and it was successful her tumour was removed. We had to keep her in highly hygienic condition post operation and she was was released post 10 days of post operative care. She could eat again and started living again happily in her area.
Puku has been rescued by locals. Puku had severe burns on her back. She was very young, so lots of oral medicines could not be given to her. We did regular dressings and applied ointments. It took some time, but her progress was remarkable. Once she was completely healed, she was adopted by a family.
Phulki is a native of Simultala bazaar (Behala). She met with an accident and as a result of that her right paw got affected. Initially she was treated with antibiotics and regular dressing of the paw was done. Things did not improve and her paw became worse. Post consultation with several doctors, amputation seemed to be the only option. She was successfully operated at Ashari -NGO. We took utmost care for her post operative treatment and now she is ready to be released to the place.
